You can configure HipChat to receive automatic notifications of Splunk incidents and to monitor Splunk connectivity to JIRA Service Desk (JSD). First, install the HipChat add-on. Then, configure the JSD add-on to connect to HipChat, and select which Splunk servers you want to monitor in which HipChat rooms.

Prerequisites

Installing the HipChat Add-On

  1. Log in to HipChat as an admin.
  2. Create a new room or go to the existing room where you want to monitor your Splunk connectivity with JSD.
  3. On the sidebar, click Add integrations.
  4. Scroll down past the Marketplace listings and click the link to Install an integration from a descriptor URL.
  5. Enter the following URL:

    https://jsdsplunkplugin.plugins.forty8fiftylabs.com
  6. Click Install.
HipChat downloads connection information for the JSD integration. On the right sidebar of the room, a new item indicates that HipChat is not yet connected with your JSD instance.

Connecting JSD to HipChat

  1. Log in to JSD as an admin.
  2. Click the gear icon, and then click Applications.
  3. Under Integrations, click RealTime Splunk Connector for JSD.

  4. Click the HipChat Rooms tab.
  5. Click the plus icon .
  6. Search for the group name of the HipChat instance where you installed the RealTime Splunk Connector add-on.
The next page shows the available rooms from the HipChat group you specified.

  7. Select the HipChat rooms where you want to monitor Splunk servers.

Selecting Splunk Servers to Monitor in HipChat Rooms

After you select which Splunk servers to monitor in which HipChat rooms, the add-on automatically sends a notification to the desired room if a Splunk server fails several consecutive connectivity checks. For more information, see Monitoring Splunk Connectivity.

  1. On the HipChat Rooms tab, click the ellipses beside a HipChat room, and then click Assign Splunk Servers.
  2. Select the Splunk servers you want to monitor in the HipChat room, and click Save.
  3. Repeat steps 1 – 2 for each HipChat room where you want to monitor Splunk servers.
  4. Click the Activate toggle beside each connection that you want to activate.
In the HipChat room, the sidebar now shows the connectivity status between JSD and all selected Splunk servers.
