So you've downloaded SmartHandler, set up the handler as instructed, and clicked "Run". Suddenly your activity log has a new error message-- "No Issue Type Selected"!

Don't panic!.. First, confirm the project key and issue type is valid. Yes? Great! The displayed error message could be caused by Jira when the user taking the selected action does not have the correct permission to do something. The error message is not the most descriptive and this is due to each Jira configuration being unique. There is not a one-size-fits-all set of instructions to correct this error, however, below are some suggestive tips to help you correct the issue.

Try these things:

  1. Make sure your Reporter and/or Action Performer has permissions to create tickets in the project you selected.
  2. If you are using Active Directory, make sure it is synced and the user is active.
  3. On Jira Service Desk [JSD], if you are trying to set an incoming email from a new customer as Reporter, you will likely run into difficulties. Using the default JSD permission scheme, only existing customers can be used as a reporter. We do not automatically create customers for you.

If all else fails, you may contact our support team for assistance. Please include screenshots of your permission scheme for the intended project, screenshots of you your action configuration, and whether you are using Active Directory.
